		EmpIcon5.lha - *ArtWare
		=======================

It's such a shame...

Emplant is SUCH a nice product, even though most new versions
(including the PC emulator) exists only in internet-messages from UU's
CEO. (Yes, Jim. This *is* a hint.)
I love the ability to run Mac programs - even heavy programs like
QuarkXPress(tm) and Adobe Illustrator(tm) runs nicely with this cheap
little card fitted inside my A4000 "light".
But there are two things that almost ruins the appearance of the
Emplant as a serious product:

1) The icons. They're awful. REALLY awful. Especially if you use a
tall workbench screen, like interlaced productivity. And the launch
icons even open shell windows just to type one sentence - this steals
valuable ram. Very valuable, since the Mac needs every unfragmented
byte it can get.

2) The "manual". Apart from not having an index and a step-by-step
getting-started section, the design reminds me of Electrolux(R),
Hoover(R) and the "Big, Green Clean Machine"(tm). The ring binder
itself is quite nice, but the typographic quality leaves a lot to be
desired. The person(s) responsible for the DTP work should have paid
Utilities Unlimited for delivering such a lousy product.

But don't despair. There are replacement icons floating around the
net. I saw a couple of icons by Dave Cole (pmethius@umcc.umich.edu)
which were nice, but they had almost the same unpractical dimensions as
the original icon upon which they were based. So I've drawn my own.
Just so you can say: "Well - *Art can't draw either!"

And a manual will be released in QuarkXPress(tm) format, as well as in
"standard" postscript as soon as I can get hold of the new manual and
get a clearance from UU to do this (the manual is copyrighted). You'll
have to print it out yourselves.

Because I haven't got the new manual and the permit from UU yet, all
you'll find in this archive is a replacement script file for
EC_Launch_MAC and four icons designed for use with MagicWB or a similar
palette. The icons are smaller than the originals, and are saved in
three bitplanes for use with an eight-colour workbench. Expand them
with OptIcon or a similar program if you use more colors on your WB
screen.

This tiny collection is ofcourse FreeWare, but if you really like it,
just send me your sister as payment.

Enjoy,
*Art
