Password Utility V1.0
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FreeWare:
~~~~~~~~
This program is freeware so you are not obliged to give me anything
for its use. However if you use it and would like to see future
upgrades of it send me an e-mail to let me know that you have found
it usefull.
Features:
~~~~~~~~
This program allows you to protect your HD from non authorised persons
by using a 4 digit password. The program lets you create your own
password which the computer will ask you when you try to boot your
computer. The program uses a nice Graphical User Interface to make
your system look more professional.
Installation & Usage:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To install it on your HD copy the 2 executables to the C: drawer on
your HD. Then run the CreatePassWD executable by typing its name at
the CLI or double klicking on its icon and then pressing the Return
key (Note that none of the executables takes any parameters from the
CLI). This will open a window on your WB where you can enter a 4 digit
number. By Clicking on the OK button a password file will be created
in the S: drawer of your HD which contains the 4 digit number in encrypted
format. Next place this line somewhere in your S:Startup-Sequence:
C:ReadPassWD
Upon Bootup a window will appear asking you to enter the 4 digit number
for identification which you can enter by clicking on the Cycle gadgets.
When you are ready click on the OK button.
If you enter the Password correctly the computer will proceed with booting
otherwise it will reset your machine.
Limitations:
~~~~~~~~~~~
Up to now only a 4 digit number can be used even though the CreatePassWD
program can accept more. This is because in the ReadPassWD program I
could fit only 4 Cycle Gadgets. This will be increased in future releases.
Note that if you enter a greater than 4 digit number in the CreatePassWD
program the password file created will contain the full number entered
and thus would be unusable. So enter only 4 digit numbers when creating
the password file.
Important Notes:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) The program needs Kickstart 2.0+ to work.
2) If you happen to forget your password you should keep the 2 mouse buttons
pressed after you reset your machine and then choose the Boot with No Startup
icon. This will give you a CLI window where you can call the CreatePassWD
program to alter the existing password.
3) Also note that you can protect the Password file created from deletion
by unauthorised persons by using the dos command Protect. This can be
done by entering this at the CLI:
Protect S:PassWD re
