Mario Vitale - Amiga File Manager v 0.4
Hello Amiga User. Here is version 0.4 of my Amiga File Manager. In this
version file management is (almost) developed (see History below to know
about improvement). Please read carefully section FUTURE below, cause
there is more about next release and I hope this can be very interesting
for you all.
INSTALL
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY NOTES INCLUDED IN LHA FILE. THIS PROGRAM (AT THIS
DEVELOPMENT POINT) IT'S POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS.
Sorry there is not installer for the moment, but installation is quite
simple. Create a directory wherever you want (I recommend you try my
program on your system installing on floppy for the first time; program
is quite short and you'll have not problem also with standard 880K
floppy) and unpack lha archive on it. Rename the file AMF.### that fit
your processor (try AMF.any if you have some problem) to AMF and delete
the others one. Create a subdir (in the dir in which you put my
program) named 'TrashAMF' (without ' but keep attention to lowercase/
uppercase character). That's all! (You'll find two AMF icons for
MagicWB and NewIcon).

FUTURE
The first entry in my todo list is external plug-ins (why external you
understand a bit later). They will be exactly like the plug-ins of any
browser and with them you can view image file, play sound, play movie
and so on.
The second and most important entry of my todo list is internal plug-ins.
To explain about them I need to make a step back. With MUI we made a big
step ahead toward standardization (thanks Stefan! :) but it lacks in
communication between different program (this is due mostly because
sadly AmigaOS had not revision since many years). You could say: 'but
there is ARexx!'. Yes, of course, but I think that ARexx is very good
for macro, not to support extensive program communication and cooperation.
Example? Perhaps you want to collect your mail every hour, and you can
set your mailer to do this, but if you have not a permanent connection
to internet and you must connect with modem, you need to start and hang up
of your own the connection.
Now think about this: in Miami (for example) there are two buttons that,
for most of times, are the only button you use during a Miami session
(obviously Online and Offline button). When you press one of this button
you probably set up a Method (hey Holger, I hope you made it in the right
way :) that is a routine the main program load and the OS call (not he
main program) under some circumstances (setted by main program).
A Method need not to start after you press a button, but can be linked to
a menu choice, but, most important, can be started by another routine, if
they share the same MUI environment. So that is what internal plug-ins
are: MUI program that want to share the same environment and cooperate.
Obviously this will need some effort from MUI program Author, because I
can set up the environment, but not directly pulg-in actual version of
any MUI program. (Note: every MUI programmer that want to know more about
can freely contact me by email).
